A member of the Titan Cement Group, Titan America is a global cement manufacturer and leader in the industry.
Committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Titan has an R&D lab, Innovation Hub, and scale-up capabilities in South Florida.
Ternary Blended Cement
- Titan’s ternary blended cement reduces emissions by 40%
- Improves concrete durability
Titan will work with Carbon Limit and UM to validate and incorporate Carbon Limit products into cement and concrete products.
Founded in 2021, Carbon Limit is a Climate Tech company that innovates and commercializes concrete solutions for a more sustainable built environment.
CaptureCrete
- Uses clean concrete to reduce emissions
CoolCrete
- Enhances concrete’s ability to reflect sunlight, reducing heat absorption
- Can cool surfaces 10 °C or more
Carbon Limit will harness the expertise of UM and FIU, tapping into their state-of-the-art facilities and extensive networks for research validation and testing.
The Innovative Bridge Technologies/Accelerated Bridge Construction University Transportation Center at FIU (IBT/ABC-UTC) is using a unique process to “spray on” ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC)
Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) qualities:
- More durable & resistant to seawater corrosion & other damage
- Existing concrete can be retrofitted using UHPC on bridges & buildings
- Allows for building of smaller, more lightweight structures
- Leads to energy savings
UM College of Engineering
- Six faculty working with cement-based materials, including through NSF-funded centers
- Expertise at all length-and time-scales
- Fundamental and applied concrete research
- Close collaborations with FIU, Titan, Carbon Limit and 1Print
Wall of Wind
(WoW)
- Largest, most powerful university research facility
- Can simulate a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 157 mph+
- Made up of 12 very large electric fan motors
- Tests how structures, materials and products withstand hurricane winds
