Ines Hernandez

Economic Development Fellow

Ines Hernandez’s career is made up of a variety of roles that are bound by a common thread: building thriving, resilient, sustainable communities. She has over 20 years of experience in designing and implementing community and economic development solutions with government, community, corporate and philanthropic partners with a long track record of enhancing diversity and inclusion. Ines has strong leadership skills in forming cross-sector coalitions to effect social change.  She translates big ideas to actionable strategies, leverages resources, and applies research and data to identify and implement shared goals across complex multidisciplinary initiatives. She has demonstrated experience navigating intersecting issues, including but not limited to, affordable housing, neighborhood revitalization, small business development, climate policy, public health, workforce development, and financial inclusion. As a public relations professional, Ines also understands business, political, and grassroots landscapes and how issues are communicated in the media, through the political process, and in the public dialogue.

Ines is the inaugural Fellow for Florida International University’s Startup FIU where she helps to connect the school to opportunities that foster entrepreneurship and build inclusive prosperity by leveraging its role as an anchor institution and innovation hub. In her prior role as SVP and South Florida Market Leader for Citi, she was responsible for leading the bank’s regional commitment to economic inclusion and leveraged philanthropy, business solutions and relationship expertise to launch and scale transformative programs with high social impact. Ines serves as a board member of the Health Foundation of South Florida and the Allapattah Community CDC.
