Dr. Julian Mendel completed a BS in Zoology at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. He then continued his education at Florida International University completing both an MS in Forensic Science and an PhD in biology. Dr. Mendel’s research interests are DNA and forensic sample collection methods, a line of work in which he has a patent award, canine olfaction, metabolomics, and bioinformatics approaches to data analysis.

He has completed both regional and national NSF I-Corps programs, and has worked closely with the StartUP FIU team on a number of initiatives. He currently serves as the Graduate Program Director of the MSFS program and the Assistant Director of Academic and Student Affairs at the Global Forensic and Justice Center.
